"For local friends, I saw this production yesterday and highly recommend it. It's a beautifully written play, lovingly directed by Deejay Gray. The 4 person cast is excellent; Michael Hawke and Jackie Goldberg Jones are outstanding and I've never seen either of them do a better job. It's certainly an emotionally challenging play, but really worth it."

It was heartbreaking watching her trying to process her parents' arguments and desperately wanting to connect with a boy so she would feel loved". Each actor met the challenge of allowing their character to be sympathetic and relatable despite each person having clashing views and backgrounds. Though it is a drama, there was plenty of humor to be found in the story. But even with all of the laughs it is as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking. And great job to Zachary Owen for knowing where to find the right nuances in the script, to make the play really work. A part of me never wanted it to end. All around an amazing experience." " Over the Tavern was awesome. I brought my family and they literally laughed from beginning to end. The play gives a very authentic look into a family from the 1950's from the look to the way they spoke. It also gives a personal and well thought out perspective in how the complexities of religion can affect people from the followers to those in status.
The cast was superb. Each character could've been played into a stereotype but the cast carried out their parts with the right amount of sensitivity and conviction. Most notable are the actors who played Rudy, Ellen and Georgie. Fawn LaBenz Matzer was captivating as Ellen, who makes you not help but empathize as she tries to keep the family as well as herself together through the trying times. Nick Dauley played Georgie to the tee by giving him the type of dimension most professional actors neglect to add when playing someone of disability.
Eric Brenner effortlessly channels Macaully Culkin by giving Rudy the right amount of child-like innocence and wise-beyond-his-years delivery. I'm sure many people have had questions and revelations that Rudy shares in the play
Long story short: This was the best play I've seen from the HATTheatre and I'm sure anyone who watches it will love it".
